A Postgraduate/Early Career Conference and Workshop Hosted by the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies University of Bristol On Wednesday 28th and Thursday the 29th September 2011.
This two day event will focus on the application of Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical concepts to empirical research in the field of sociology and anthropology, with a substantive focus on the concepts outlined in Michael Grenfell’s (2008) edited book: Pierre Bourdieu Key Concepts. Sponsored by Queen’s University Belfast and the University of East London in association with the University of Bristol. This two day event is centred around presentations by five academics who apply the theoretical concepts of Bourdieu to their work. These academics will also conduct workshops over the two days with eight participants in each. The workshops will be led and arranged by each of the academic speakers, who will see a synopsis of the participants’ research beforehand to arrange suitable reading and plan the classes.
If you would like to participate you will need to send a small abstract explaining how your research demonstrates a critical engagement with Bourdieu’s key concepts (no more than 500 words): Return by email by 15th June to Bourdieu2011 AT gmail.com
